New Router Ideas

[link to this post]

Hey guys, you may remember me, you may not...

I am looking for an upgrade to my DGN 2000 router... I have also had a 2640R by D-Link which is currently dropping and being a pain.

I want to spend about £30 and have been recommended this...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TD-W8960N-300MBPS-Wi...

Do you guys (in the know) agree?

I need a wireless ADSL router/modem.

More info needed smile

Why do you need to "upgrade your DGN2000" ?

The LAN ports often burn out on these is that the problem ? (But not really an upgrade)

If you are on a decent line then most routers will be fine - but if you are on long/variable quality line then router and chipset choice is very important! See link in my signature.

It continually drops and has a slower speed than my older D-Link.

I live in the countryside and my line is not the best. I am a few miles from the exchange.
Using my D-Link the downstream stats:
SNR Margin (dB): 13.7
Attenuation (dB): 54.0
Output Power (dBm): 18.9

The BT Business Hub 2Wire 2700HGV wireless router is renowned for hanging onto a long line. The router is locked to BT, but this can be easily over ridden.

My ISP, Plusnet sent me a DGN2200 last year. Unlike the DGN2000, the ports keep working. I just use the router as an additional switch and as a 2nd 'n' wifi point.

This year Plusent sent me a 582n which I use for my DSL connection with 63dn downstream attenuation.

Both routers were supplied FOC.

The 582n does port translation which the DGN2200 can't do.
