TP-link n900 (TL-WDR4900) vs Asus RT_N66u routers

[link to this post]

Hey,
Does anyone have any experience with either or both of these routers?

I can find quite a few reviews for the Asus but it's been around longer so maybe that's why. The TP-link is hard to find any reviews for it.

They both seem very similar but i'm interested in the actual performance of them not just what they can say they do. In terms of range, speed, signal strength.

Also i know on the TP-link it has Qos so as far as i know you can set a specific ip address on the network and control the internet speed for that ip address and such things. Can you do this on the Asus as well?

Thanks

Is the TL-WDR4300 same range?

Checked and yes it is, and have used both. If given choice prefer RT-N66U nicer and more featured GUI, almost a small download server in its own right.

The 4900 seems to benefit from more antenna so might give better wireless.
The 4300 model is a fair bit slower than the RT-N66U, so question is whether the extra tweaks of the 4900 boost it to match.

When looking at the ADSL modem asus model I looked more in depth at QoS

Thanks.

I'm leaning towards the Asus but i don't have proper performance details for the TP-link yet.

Looking at that Qos screens, i was right in saying that you can specify a network ip address and say limit the upload speed to 512kbps or something like that?

With regards to the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz, how does that work? From what i understand it essential creates two wifi networks that you can connect to.

Just have to wait for them to come down a bit in price.

Yeap you have two different wireless networks, and you can pick which to connect to.
Or if all your devices are on 2.4GHz even turn that one off.

With you saying about the other TP-link router, i was looking at the wdr3600 (n600) router and found this review comparing it to the Asus router. It seems to out perform it in some case and on par with it in others.
