Recommendations for spare router for FTTC

[link to this post]

I'd like to buy a CHEAP router to keep for emergencies or diagnostics. I have FTTC/VDSL, so it needs to support PPPoE WAN-side to connect to the VDSL modem. LAN side it only needs a single port to connect to a switch (but more not a problem, obviously). No need for wireless. Support for an IPSec router-to-router VPN is nice to have, but not essential. NAT firewall is essential.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Nick

Watch out for throughput speed.

A friend of mine has a cheap TPLINK router with 8 ethernet ports and no wireless. He loves it, but its limiting his WAN speed from the 60meg VM cable he is buying to 35meg :-/

Good to know, do we know if it can with PPPoE or only with IP/DHCP type WANs?

I recall the test in this forum of routers that showed most can do 450megabit or higher on IP/DHCP WAN and as soon as you enable PPPoE they drop by 50%....

Thanks, both.

I'm also looking at an Aztech GR7000. Any views?
