Dropping PPP or staying up

[link to this post]

I'm in the early stages of thinking I see worse impact from a brief VDSL2 glitch (20s resync) with a HomeHub5 using the integrated modem, as opposed to externally. In the former case PPP is recycled, in the latter it is not.

More info at http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/HomeHub-5-VDS...

Out of interest do most of the new routers on the market with integrated VDSL work similar to the HH5, or will they maintain the PPP connection during a short vdsl resync (one assumes the atm style link is kept up for a short period)

I've since learnt that part of the reason for re-establish PPP is to report the connection speeds and set the iPprofile, so perhaps the HH5 is working more as BT intend, regardless of what one might prefer....

Indeed it is...
See this or that.

INdeed - those are the links I discovered! It may just have been variation in how long the line took to resync, and if PPP did cycle, whether the IP address was reused or not

Anyway I think I'll stick with the huwaii for a week, possibly more before trying HH5 internal again & I'll be able to better see how HH5 differs if at all
