Change username password tplinkap

[link to this post]

My tplinkap arrived; good signal where required; both 2.4 and 5 GHz

However can' t change from default username and password. As I login, using the default, I am prompted to change them. Enter new username, password and retype password (high strength and green tick to show match) but when I press confirm I get failed. Tried several times to logout and back in but failure each time.

Changed 2.4 SSID and its password sucessfully so know I am talking to unit.

All this via wifi..

Also tried to go through account management but get failure there.

Any advice please

Keep it simple at first, leave username as it was originally and for experiment purposes use a reality simple password, if that works then the issue may have been your password was too complex or too long and the web page was not conveying that info very well.

Does not seem to like punctuation symbols in password?

I was going to suggest that might be a reason.

Try setting it as abc then abc1 that will prove you can change it. Follow that with abc1: abc1# abc1- and so on to see which special characters it may take. Some will take any character, other just a subset which includes: @ # ? & * $ £ but excludes ones such as . , : ; '

Have you tried hard wired rather than WiFi? I had a router in the past (can't remember what it was now) that would only allow username and password changes when wired in.

Thanks for the replies.

Changed user name and password, via wifi, but only used letters and numbers; will try other punctuations marks later.
