You snooze, you lose.

Amazon price now £152.98!

Should have just gone for it!!

I wouldn't worry too much, Amazon's prices for the R7800 have been going up & down more frequently than a hooker's panties...sooner or later it will back to the £120-£130 range.

There's a third party seller on Amazon selling a brand new R7800 for £127, grab it before they jack up the price

Indeed. I use and recommend The Tracktor to research historical lows and set price alerts:

https://thetracktor.com/detail/B01B4X503S/uk/

As an example of this site's power, last year I managed to get a 1TB SanDisk Ultra II SSD for £140 versus the current price of £250. It was reduced for only a few hours, direct from Amazon.

Although this router Netgear R7800 does not have a VDSL modem built in assuming you need one if not it good to go.

Too late again.

I'll just keep an eye on Amazon and wait for a price drop.

Not come across The Tracktor before. I'm guessing it only tracks once every 24 hours as it is still showing a price of £129.99.

I'll certainly give it a whizz, although looking at the historical trend, the sub-£130 price appears to come along once in a blue moon and the current Amazon price of £152.50 is actually below the long term average.

My Asus RT-N66U feels a little long in the tooth. Wireless is seemingly less solid than in the past.

Is the Nighthawk a good like for like replacement? Range and reliability are top in my criteria.

Also pondering if a mesh set-up might be better as router is stuck up one end of long bungalow.

The Netgear R7800 will be considerably better than the Asus RT-N66U for wifi range. Btw the R7800 is currently priced £137 at Amazon which is still quite a good price.

Ok, at it's most extreme I probably need a 20m range with handful of walls.

I take it the 2.4Ghz flakey-ness reported in reviews has been improved with firmware?

Since it's Amazon, it could easily go back if I don't see results.

Both 2.4 and 5ghz radios are rock solid on the R7800 and as you say the router can be returned to Amazon for a full refund if you're not happy with its performance. You've nothing to lose smile
