HG 612 with Draytek 2760

[link to this post]

Hi all

In order to try to get the most from my FTTC line I want to try a HG612 with my Draytek 2760

I have connected the 612 to WAN 2 on the draytek I put in my ISP login info into the Draytek and I get my static IP from my ISP and DNS settings from my ISP showing in the Draytek but no access to the net

I have the 2760 set to 192.168.1.2 and if I connect a cable from the 612 LAN 2 to the Draytek I can see the 612, If I run DSL stats I can see the 612 and the line stats but no net access - does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong ??

BTW my ISP is Talk Talk Business

The HG612 syncís several Mbps lower than more modern modems and modem/touters. So you have already defeated your object.

To get stats and maintain internet access, you may need the HG612 LAN1 connected to your Draytek WAN2 and the 612 LAN2 connected to a Draytek Ethernet port.

Someone somewhere I think did publish a way to do what you are trying to do, but the way it was done by the person who produced the unlocked firmware did it the way I describe.

Yes, both the original two-cable method and the single cable methods are linked to in this kitz article. So you can check against the multiple links for the way you are connecting it.

Although yours is obviously already unlocked, you need to check it has version 30SP08 firmware, not the 28SP10. If yours has 30SP08 you can ignore the unlocking part. If not, you need to update it as described.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 68543/12313Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

Can you use the Draytek web interface to ping bbc.co.uk?

I would avoid connecting a Lan port of the Draytek to the 612 before you get web access working properly.

I don't have a 2760 but do you have the cable plugged into Lan 4 that goes to the 612?

From the Draytek Website

As well as being able to connect to ADSL/VDSL lines directly though the RJ11 socket on the rear, the Vigor 2760 can now instead connect to Ethernet-fed Internet connections, such as that provided by cable modems (e.g. VirginMedia). When Ethernet WAN is enabled, LAN Port 4 switches to become your WAN port into which you can connect to your cable modem or other Ethernet feed.

The other 3 Gigabit LAN ports (1-3) remain available for normal LAN connectivity. Note, you cannot have Ethernet WAN and ADSL/VDSL enabled at the same time; if Ethernet WAN is enabled, the ADSL/VDSL port is disabled (and vice versa). The photo on the right shows the Vigor 2760 connected to a cable modem using the Ethernet WAN Port. This feature is available on Vigor 2760 units shipped after June 2014 (firmware 3.x.x or later required).

Hi all

Many thanks for your replies,

"The HG612 syncís several Mbps lower than more modern modems and modem/touters"

I am finding the opposite the 612 is syncing a bit faster than the Draytek does

I have got B030SP08 I think , 'cos I am seeing G.INP in the stats and AFAIK B030SP08 is the only version that supports that

I have got the Modem plugged into the correct socket on the Draytek

I plugged a PC direct into the HG 612 on LAN1 and created a new Broadband connection using the W7 wizard - that worked fine good connection to the net

I have no idea how to "use the Draytek web interface to ping bbc.co.uk?"

I also found my old HG635 router that has a red WAN port so I plugged my modem into that and got that to work just fine

I set the ip of the 635 to 192.168.1.2 and with a second cable connected to a LAN port on the 635 I can see the stats on 192.168.1.1 just fine

So it has to be a setting that I have wrong in the Draytek 2760

If any one has any ideas please do let me know

First of all, forget about accessing the stats on the HG612 until your 2760 gets an internet connection. Do a factory reset on the Draytek 2760 and leave its IP as 192.168.1.1. Then connect to the HG612 using PPPoE on the 2760. That should do the trick.

Once you get a DSL connection, only then change the IP address of the 2760 to 192.168.2.1 and connect a cable from Port 2 on the HG612 to a spare LAN port on the 2760. You should now be able to see the GUI or telnet into the HG612 by going to 192.168.1.1

I agree with you re:HG612, i found it rock solid when used on a vdsl2 line.

Hi

Are there's a thought I have not yet done a factory reset so I will try that

I was changing the IP to 192.168.1.2 so I will give 192.168.2.1 a go as well
