Email setting problems

[link to this post]

I just reinstalled windows and i can't seem to get my email to send, though i can recieve no probs. I can send from the webmail client.

I'm using the latest thunderbird client, i have put in the outgoing server address as smtp.eclipse.co.uk but it keeps coming back with relay access denied when i try to send.

I've tried it with username and password ticked and unticked but it still doesn't work.

Is the port 25?

Can anyone tell me what settings i am missing please?

silly question but are you currently connected via an Eclipse IP & is your email address spelt correctly & a valid domain?

How did I get into the IDNet forum?

Surely they have a support faq? Eclipse do:
http://kb.eclipse.net.uk/display/2/kb/article.asp?aid=1021

Port 25 looks familiar but you will also need pop and smtp server settings.

Generic Settings
Outgoing SMTP port = 25
Incoming POP port = 110

Eclipse Server Settings
Outgoing SMTP Server = smtp.eclipse.co.uk
Incoming POP3 Server = mail.eclipse.co.uk

You will need your pop logon

anything@username.eclipse.co.uk
password for that mail account as set up in your admin panel.

Good luck

Not connected via an eclipse ip as i left in august 2005. But they never cut my email.

I did go throught the faq page to set it all back up, i may try another email client and see if that works.

Thanks for the help.

It's not the client. You need to use IDnet's smtp server.

Change your SMTP server to current ISP

[re: dibdab] [link to this post]

Out going email always has to go via the ISP you are connected to. If you are not connected via Eclipse you will not be able to send emails via Eclipse and I would be very surprised if you have done so in the past. There are too many spammers looking for open relays for an ISP to leave their email server open.

Point your outgoing mail at your current ISPs mail server and everything will work fine. Your incoming mail server can stay at Eclipse. That won't be a problem.

personally I've ditched reliance on an ISPs mail server & use authenticated smtp via gmail

Much more satisfying & reliable :-)
