be sure its not your end before blaming the isp. also understand how dns works, specifically regarding TTL.

well i have tried the website on my iphone wireless to my router, the same happens. so it can't be the pc or iphone and i haven't changed nothing in the router so what else can it be, other than the odd reboot of the router thats needed.

Like you say "the odd reboot of the router" which would fix a stale / corrupt cached DNS entry for the site.

If the site has moved to a new IP address then whilst they would have changed thir DNS records, if the TTL is 12-14 hours (fairly standard) then any DNS server, be it the one in your router or any caching resolver (DNS server) upstream of there would report the old address until the TTL expires if it's already in its cache.

If the DNS record was unavaialble for some reason then your device, possible your router and possibly other upstream DNS servers may "negatively cache" the lack ofDNS response for a period of time.

In short, there are lots potential reasons for the problem!

As you haven't changed nothing in the router, perhaps you can state what it is that you have changed? wink

I have passed it onto support but on normal experance don't rely on anything fast. I had a lot od DNS isues, it turned out a DNS server wasn't working from DNS tests I did and finally they were said to have sorted it. That was when I changed my DNS addressess untill the fix was done so it may be back to changing again!

Hi nuke_me,

It does seem odd that people on other ISPs seem to also have problems, but I'll take a look at it from here, I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi guys,

We’ve had a look at it from here; sadly it seems there's no response when a lookup is done against the name server for the domain either. Basically when we run the same test against the billion.uk.com name server (an example of which is NS4.QWSERVER-1.NET), we get the same response as when we test against the Eclipse server.

This does look like theres an issue with either Billion or their DNS host. A support ticket has been logged with both Billion UK and their DNS providers, asking if they are aware of any issues with their DNS servers.

Some other DNS providers may work, as long as they're using cached DNS records, but this will only last for as long as their records will last.

Please let me know if you'd like me to send you the nslookup results showing this in action.

I have been keeping an eye on it over late this afternoon and evening, and I agree its looking good - if not a little intermittent.

I'll continue to keep an eye on it.

It seems that the four name servers for billion.uk.com still dont seem to be resolving properly. Sadly access may seem a little unstable from time to time while this is going on.

Please let me know if you need any further information.
