Woosh test

[link to this post]

Is there anybody knocking around here who could do a 'woosh' test or similar on a phone line without my applying for ADSL on it?

I don't want to sign up with an ISP for a month just to get line stats...from the point that it is not fair on the ISP/reseller to do that.

My main ADSL line is not brilliant and I want to see if my second line would be any better.

Please PM if you can help and I'll supply the line's number.

TIA

DrT

woosh is a dsl test, you need dsl to test. You might find someone who can test for insulation and balance though.

I'm not sure that a woosh test can be carried out on a line that doesn't have ADSL on it.

Tim is correct. You have to have a live DSL connection as each line is given a CBUK (circuit ID), when you have a BT Wholesale login it is tied to the circuits your company "owns", so without an active DSL connection a Woosh cannot be ran, also only the SP that has the line could run it. I *think* the same is true for PSTN lines too (BT WLR)..

As others have said ADSL woosh tests can only be run by an ISP that runs the service.

In theory BT Openreach can run tests that give an indication of loop loss, etc BUT they won't normally run those for end users ...
The above post has been made by an ISP REPRESENTATIVE (although not necessarily the ISP being discussed in the post).
