ADSL2+ on Draytek 2710vn

[link to this post]

I'm looking for some advice on ADSL2+. My exchange went 21CN enabled this month and I asked to be moved across early so I could be put on to ADSL2+. So I paid for the migration which happened last Thursday and the only change I have seen was in sync'd upload.

I called Enta today and they confirmed that I am on an ADSL2+ product but I am not seeing any increase in down sync speed. My target SNR is 15dB which it was on ADSL Max. That's partly the reason I wanted to move to ADSL2+ as my SNR has been increased over the last couple of years when there are no errors on my line and I read that there is a line training period which I thought would be an SNR reset. My SNR target has been increase after resets on my router.

The guy at Enta suggested I check my router to see if I have to change any settings to switch to ADSL2+. In my Draytek 2710vn router I can select the modulation type which is normally set to 'Multimode' (Auto). The selectable options are ADSL2 Annex M, ADSL2+(G.992.5) and ADSL2+ Annex M. I have tried all three and I can not connect to the exchange. It only connects on g.DMT or Multimode, in both cases the syslog monitor reports the Mode as g.DMT.

Can you still connect using g,DMT modulation on a line that is meant to be ADSL2+?

Does anyone have any suggestion on what to do next? The only thing I can think to do is ask for an SNR reset.

If it helps, here is a copy of the status from my router.

Multimode will give the draytek the option of what to sync at. AnnexM is only applicable if you have paid for it as an extra. Default no as it about a tenner more PCM.

We set ours to ADSL2+(G.992.5) they can take several mins to sync, how long have you left it for? We had one line take 15 mims to first sync after a WBC migration.

Have you done a firmware upgrade?

I have the latest UK firmware Version : 3.3.6.1_232201
Build Date/Time : Feb 23 2011 09:56:18
ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A Hardware: Annex A

So the Draytek will not connect on ADSL2+ on multimode?
I did not wait anywhere near 15mins. I'll give that a try and see if it connects.
Thanks for the reply.

I just tried 30mins connecting using ADSL2+(G.992.5) and no connection. Is there any other settings to change apart from modulation?

Speak with your reseller and get them to check to settings, it is possible your account is set to Access Technology - ADSL rather than ADSL2+ as that can give you ADSL but with the uncapped upstream, I would have thought the Enta Tech guys would have checked but always worth a new set of eye on it, easy thing to miss.

I tried a Netgear DG834g on my line last night and the stats are the same. I have spoken directly with Enta support who can not see anything wrong with the line or BT settings. They are regrading me back to ADSL1 and then back on to ADSL2 as they say this is quicker than trying to convince BT that there is a problem. The regrade take less than 24 hours each time to complete.

Do the resellers have access to account information or do you guys also have to contact Enta to find out details?

No, we get access to most things via the portal, have you spoken to your reseller?

No I haven't as I thought I would be adding another step into the communications chain. I have just raised a support ticket with Jason.
