Am I stupid paying £40 for my BB package these days ?

[link to this post]

I got to be honest, I have been a bit lazy, I used to check often and never saw any special deals with true unlimited for ADSL2 people. Yet all of a sudden lots are appearing. BT and Plusnet do one for £16 and Aquiss seem to do one around £20. I am struggling to see why I am still paying £40 (inc vat) for a 90gb limited package with Enta.

Am I missing something or should I be jumping ship ? I love the 1 month contract with Enta, but that is the only positive difference I can see.

£40 per month inc VAT excl line rental ? Home or business ?

A few differences like static IP that may or may not matter to you, and traffic shaping / site blocking that Entanet may not have.

Supposedly though lots of others no longer have traffic shaping.

The £40 I pay is a business connection (which I think just means I get 20:1 contention instead of 50:1). It is for a home user though so that price includes vat. I guess there is the bonus of a static IP and access to non court blocked P2P sites. However it is over double the price of unlimited packages.

20:1 and 50:1 have not existed for years, unless talking about services that avoid the BT Wholesale cloud and use other backhaul providers then possibly they might (but only might) be relevant.

Business = elevated priority traffic over BT Wholesale and (IIRC) different metering periods on Entanet.

On Plusnet unlimited, ADSLx or FTTC, a static IP address is a one-off charge of £5 and can be done withing minutes of first connection. I'm not sure whether or not it is available on the "Essentials" packages.

There is also a monthly contract option on all packages, a bit more expensive.

Price list, including early termination charges. Note that bundles seem to involve the longer minimum term of the two products applying to both. Make sure you scroll down as far as the various connection charges, as well as looking at the monthly prices.

Yes Phil smile. Explained in greater depth here.

It's excellent. Since the unlimited products were introduced in December 2012 there hasn't been a single complaint about it. Not bad.

Quite a few non-customers seem to get rather hot under the collar for some reason.
