Enta Nightmare.

[link to this post]

Really had enough of my Freeola Broadband nightmare now. I can see it's fell over at home today. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/9c0ab536e12...
Zen have been good, but a BTO joint repair and fault clear seem to have done no good, so now looking to switch my line first to Pulse8 to get the faults if any ironed out. There is then the option of adding their 24mb Broadband for a £14 saving on my current combination, or if the line is still troublesome, take their fibre bring the copper down from 1.2k to 300m. Fairly sure my main problem is a combination of Enta congestion and fibre work on my exchange and cabinet. Enta has always been congested at lunchtime (Business priority) and evenings also now. Their recent network expansion has done nothing for me, rather like hiding access to the overloaded node monitors.

Enta aren't having the best day:

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/b19584fb0a2...

We have a SIP trunk from them too and that has just failed, apparently they have restarted some equipment.

When I've got the music, I've got a place to go.

They had a blade failure at 9am this morning or there abouts. Dispatched and engineer from telford who never got there till 1.30pm. In the mean time they re-routed around the affected core but packet loss was an issue due to the "network stress"

1 blade effected there entire DSL base.. go figure!

There network is falling to bits these days. We are investing in our own L2TP wholesale setup with Zen.

Entanet have gone down hill very fast over the past year.

Luckily we have a KCOM backup SIP trunk and the DSL line is in case our leased line fails. But I am going to hammer the fact that I don't trust Enta enough to route our calls.

My outage at 2.00pm. But getting far far too many, along with heavy packet loss at peak times. Customer service from Freeola has been mixed to say the least. As I said above, am checking out Pulse8 where I can save quite a bit of money and keep contract free, even with FTTC. So far, all enquiries have resulted in Adam himself replying in a couple of minutes. Don't expect that from any ISP all the time, but they have some very satisfied customers. Enta been good for me for 30 months, but very much downhill this last few months.

Packet loss is a fact of life on my line despite openjoke asserting that it is fine and healthy, even with Daisy LLU it was there - but it is worse on Enta, who have really dropped away in terms of performance and quality since I first joined them back in the old central days, when Enta staff were very active on this board. That marked them out as outstanding back then, it was no surprise when the move to WBC which also marked the sudden lack of "forum involvement" saw the service decline to "average" for me.

One of the reasons I will be leaving Vivaciti as soon as FTTC goes live on my cabinet is my annoyance at being bounced back to Enta by Vivaciti having migrated away to escape in the first place!

Yeah, got to get away from Enta now. Had a good couple of years, but the last six months been hellish. 400 miles north in our other property and even the EE here is better than Enta, which says a lot. Back down to my Suffolk property next week. Just switched the phone line down there ready to move from Enta. Zen line been good and cheap, but their broadband expensive. My cab was wired to the adjacent fibre cab over three months ago, with switch on detailed for next month, so will have the choice of ADSL2+ 24mb or fibre from Pulse8, with even the fibre option cheaper than what I am paying now.
Another Enta packet loss fan lol http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/9c0ab536e12...

Got my MAC today and away from Enta. Just too much packet loss and outages. Got an email this morning stating that Enta have three more routers to replace, that have been refusing to take connections for months. Network seems stretched and failing.

Reading in to that NOC notice, i think your find the devices have been purposefully taken out of service to stop them taking connections so there is minimal users to boot off once they are killed off to be upgraded.

Itís just badly worded by Steve. Not defending Enta but thatís the way i read it and the way we would have done it.

But Yes there network is showing its age.

Well, the wording was, that they were faulty, would not accept connections for months and were to be replaced over today and tomorrow I believe, stating there would be minimal interruption as only about 100 connections on them. Either way, a disconnect for me again this morning to add to peak packet loss, so possibly I am one of the 100, but switching away next wednesday as they are simply not what they were two and a half years ago when I joined.

Not in the NOC notice unless i am going blind..

"replacing the following routers with new much more powerful devices"

I agree with you, we lost faith in them along time ago and built our own L2TP network on the back of Zen. Slowly migrating the poor souls left on Entanet.

Will let you know how it goes. So far, enquires answered by the CEO Adam in minutes. All info delivered painlessly and quickly. They are cheaper by £11 for phone, unlimited Broadband, line rental, caller display and fixed IP, than the cheap Zen line and Enta combination I have had for two and a half years. Very similar, in that they are contract free, even for fibre, no call connection charges and per second billing, along with very low calls at 1.0p. The best I can do on a Market 1 exchange I think with what seems very good UK customer services. Should I wish to switch to fibre contract free when available in the next two months, I will still save a little over what I have been paying for ADSL2+

It's time they told Company House what they are doing smile.

They look fairly healthy on the financial side.

Andrew doesn't appear to be a director, though their Annual Return that could change that was due on 5 November. There are three listed directors, only one of whom appears on the page linked to below, but there is also apparently a statement on the Companies House entry that there is only one director. If I remember, I shall query that.

The company name in the footer of this page was changed on 10 July 2009 to the one at the top of the page.

It was my typo, probably had TBB Andrew on my mind. As I have said, the service I have had so far is first class, knowledgeable and almost immediate. All connection details and fixed IP given almost immediately after supplying MAC. So we will see. I know nothing in this world is perfect, but it is how problems are solved the sorts the good from the bad. I thought Zen for line and Freeola/Enta were a good deal and good service. Most here know the Enta nightmare I have suffered, along with some very mixed customer service from Freeola. Also last month, Zen mistakenly put me onto an expensive business line package I did not ask for, resulting in a bill this month of over £25 just for line, quite a jolt from the £11.22. I never even got a 'sorry' from them, just a credit note I will probably never see. So, that's me gone and saving money into the bargain.
I have often felt that Plusnet is favoured here compared with other forums, as I have been there and got the t-shirt and see nothing to tempt me back on Market 1. But the likes of Bob are OK and like many very knowledgeable regarding Broadband, but we can get on some folks nerves trying to have the last say on a particular thread, or we come across a condescending attitude - Got that T-shirt too!

Yes, a happy bunny at the moment. My 2km line gradually badly degraded over the last year and a nightmare over the last few months since fibre installation started. Took several phone calls monitoring errors in various ADSL modes while checking for faulty equipment my end. Once that was found not at fault, Adam switched various profiles to find the maximum service while we were both monitoring errors. Now running an 8mb service totally error free, which will be quite usable till I go live with FTTC, leaving just 300m of cantankerous copper. The most helpful and knowledgeable customer service I have come across so far and don't miss what had become an old friend - Packet loss!
