FTTP INSTALLATION

[link to this post]

This might be too obvious, but I have tried a search to no avail.

FTTP, Is the actual fibre optic cable installed into the house?

I reside in a flat, all the telephone cables are installed in non accessible ducting.

However the DP is accessible, cleverly mounted on a well used first floor landing wall.

Virgin Media refuse to install any form of cable.

FTTP = Fibre to the Premises so if your premises is a house then yes it's fibre to the house.

If you're in a block of flats it could be fibre to the basement and ethernet or VDSL through the flats. Or it could be (but less likely) fibre to the flat.

Is there a management company or somebody that won't play ball with VM ?

VM will only install if the cost of installation is less than £300 so any moderate cable run or anything they consider awkward and they will refuse to do it.

They have even refused to install to whole estates based on this clculation even when there is a cab on the road.

I believe it is a policy of VM not to retrofit multiple occupancy buildings......their phrase for flats.

There is a VM cabinet outside the front door.

Virgin don't do FTTP installations.

Virgin Media install co-ax cable with a phone line attached to it. The fibre is from a cabinet in the street back to their local node.

Virgin to install would have to get wayleave orders from the owner of the building to install into your flat

All the BT/OR cables are underground, deeply buried in the garden.

All this is just probing for info.

There are no plans to upgrade to fibre for MYSEA

OR cables while buried should be in tubing that allows another line to be pushed/pulled through if need be.

Virgin cannot use them without paying OR.

Hi,

For the FTTP trial running in Bradwell Abbey at the moment the fibre is run into the house. However at the moment they aren't doing blocks of flats. We've had one flat above a shop done but that's as far as they're going at the moment with plans to look at flats hopefully later in the year as they add more areas.

Regards,

The key word is retrofit.
