Unexpected demand for FTTC?

[link to this post]

Don't know if it's just me, but I had come to the conclusion that there were no firm estimates of what the take up would be on the FTTC rollout.

Just been chatting to the engineers on our new cab and they can't believe how many people, especially women, have been stopping to question them on when it would be available. If they are anything like my wife they are probably fed up of hearing their partners drone on about it!!

Anyway, combine that with the amount of newbies on forums asking questions, has demand for FTTC /P been under estimated?

Knowing how it works is completely different to understanding how it works.

The change from ADSL to ADSL2+ was really only a big thing for a few people.

Those getting just 1 or 2Meg, will possibly be more excited about FTTC even if it just gives 10Mbps, than someone who already has 7 or 8Meg jumping to 25Meg for example.

But has there been a greater increase in expectation more recently?

My 1-2Mbps has become a lot less usable since the wife and kids discovered face book and club penguin!

Applications driving greater speeds and greater speeds driving more applications etc.?

Knowing how it works is completely different to understanding how it works.

WHen I had my FTTC installed in mid Jan (went live end Dec) the engineer suggested that demand is massive in our area (a decent estate 4-5km from exchange so uplift on speeds is huge) -- to the point that there could be genuine concern about the fttc cab capacity ??
