Migrate from O2 Broadband to Infinity

[link to this post]

Hi,

Once it's provisioned in my area, i'm looking to move away from O2 ADSL to BT Infinity - is anyone able to tell me what the procedure is?

Do I just order Infinity and then cancel O2 when it's installed or is there some kind of porting procedure?

Will there be any downtime (other than during the install when they swap it over)?

My line is already with BT direct.

Thanks,

Ian

Just get your MAC from O2 and give that to BT. The only downtime is during the install..

Yep totally smooth - I must have only lost internet from 10 mins before the engineer turned up (and he called first) to when the modem was plugged back in.

Note that O2 charge a termination fee if transferring in first X days -- I had to wait a few weeks for infinity install so was clear of this. They still charged it, but when I phoned back on another matter realised and refunded... you'll have to ask O2 about how that works.

Hi,

Great - thanks.

I extended my contract with O2 around a year ago so that should expire within weeks so I assume i'll be free to move at any time without a fee.

How are you finding BT Infinity? - speed, ping times and reliability?

You don't have one of those Live BQM graphs some have in their sig have you?

Thanks,

If you have a mobile with them, phone them from that, forget the number but Customer Services, its free and answered within seconds.
Tell them the procedure and you wish to cancel, i bet the MAC code will be with you whin 3 mins.

No way would i have anything to do with BT, there are around 13 other providers currently.
All my problems so far with FTTC have been with BT, not the ISP.

* Yes there are a range of other suppliers - def worth checking out but depends on your requirements. If you mostly do streaming/downloads and NOT P2p, with a large volume of data then IMO BT cannot be beat
* Sounds like your problems with DTTC have been related to the Openreach (physica/cab/exchange) aspects. As you say you'll get that on any ISP. Those problems have nothing to do with BT retail/broadband/wholesale who'll provide other aspects of the broadband service.
