Cabinet Capacity

[link to this post]

Hi Guys,

Openreach, or at least one of their subcontractors, is currently installing cabinets in my local area. The cabinets that they are installing seem to be quite small and I wondered if anyone knows what capacity they have? They have a plate on them that says "BT Small Cabinet 256l". A picture can be found here: http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb443/rhino771/C...[/IMG]"].

I'd estimate, from looking at the recently "released" spreadsheets, that there are 300 properties connected to the current cabinet. Just thought that the FTTC cab looked quite small?

Thanks!

Not a 100% on this but I think that can interconnect with 256 tie pairs, so that cabinet can serve 128 VDSL lines.

I think they larger cabinets can serve 256 VDSL lines.

I thought the larger cabinets could serve 288 lines, I've seen lots of posts on here quoting that figure.

That might be right tbh, 288 sounds closer to the mark than 256.

Interesting. It looks like a newer version of the small cab.

The Huawei large cabinets have a 288 line capacity, the smaller ones 128 lines.
The design of the one pictured in the OP is different to the Huawei cabinets so I'm guessing its one of the new ECI small cabinets , ~128 lines

The Huawei can be fitted for 288, but in a lot of cases they are only provisioned for 96 leaving space for two 96 line upgrades.

I know my cabinet is currently provisioned that way.

Thanks for the various replies. Looks like all the cabinets on my exchange (LCAOR) are going to be this type of cabinet. I've seen 8 or 9 locations in the last week that have had this cabinet installed.

As an aside ... my particular cabinet now has power as it emits a slight hum and is warm to the touch on one side. Does anyone know if this indicates that it is now finished and complete or is it possible that the fibre still needs to be run to the cabinet?

Thanks once again.

As others have said, this looks like a newer version than the smaller cabinet - I think this one is taller and the other one is wider from the looks of the picture?

I can't be much use with the installation lead times though - sorry tongue

these are indeed the smaller cabinets, both shorter and thinner than the normal cabs.
