faster unlimited broadband

[link to this post]

my line is able to get "faster unlimited broadband" (BT broadband option 3 with fibre)

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 8.5Mbps and upstream line speed of 3.3Mbps.

I see on the BT website that the max speed is 20Mbps - is that correct - if it's found on install that the line can support faster speeds, are they allowed or is the line capped at 20Mbps ?

For those peope who have this product, what speeds do you get ?

Yes you can >>>>>>>>>> "your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 8.5Mbps and upstream line speed of 3.3Mbps".

The "upstream line speed of 3.3Mbps" is the clue; BT's regular ADSL, ADSL2+ products (including their ADSL2+ WBC product) top out well short of 3.3Mbps.

It looks as though you're quite a distance from your cabinet (I'm around 160m and the checker indicates I should get around 32Mbps down and around 7Mbps up, although) and the "faster unlimited broadband with fibre" you can get will still be fairly slow.

The last three 'sub 15' lines I installed on achieved 27, 40 and 37 meg respectively. The D-side lengths were 1.3k, 200m (long story) and 1.1k. They got speeds that corresponded to the sync rates. The estimates are always very conservative.

You will get the full 40 sync Ade, and even better when they change the sync rates to 80. I get the full 40 at 566m, but suspect it won't do full 80 when it comes.

It should eclipse any ADSL2+ speed you can get now.

Option 3 is ADSL2+

Option 3 with fibre has a maximum of 40Meg.

That's what I'm hoping (payback for all those years stuck on the end of a 5.23km cable which the OR database thinks is 6.94km).

It's actually looking good for a September date.....
We're within the same quarter (each time we got close to three months from the enablement date, BT pushed it back a quarter) and the date's still at 30th Sept.
Last few cabs gone in now and work barriers coming down (they would have needed planning permission in the town centre, no such problems out here).
A seemingly different team is also working in town terminating the fibres into the cabs (one cab helpfully had its doors wide open today and appears to be pretty much fully loaded with kit, cable and fibre).

Fingers crossed smile

Better than the estimate ... the upstream looks a litle low though.

What does the BT speedtest http://speedtest.btcentralplus.com/ say? The full text at the end would be usefull.
