FTTC Stamford

[link to this post]

Update to FTTC in Stamford - Had a walk/drive around town and noticed that the vast majority of PCPs now have FTTC cabinets installed beside them or near to them.

The two FTTC cabinets that serve my village have been powered up for about a month (whirring/humming noise emitted) but nothing shows up on any BT checker for any 01780 number, just giving bog standard ADSL figures. The postcode however does give estimates of 28mb down and 6MB Up.

The RFS date on Samknows keeps changing, originally March 2011 then September 2011 then March 2012 and now June 2012.

Still nothing frown Going by most posts people seem to get a date for their cabinet but the cabinet has yet to be installed, in my case the cabinet is installed but no date!

On the linked page, you say that the power has been installed. Was that part of the original install, or did it come after?

"They" (a different set of contractors) usually install power afterwards - at least a month later.

The acid test is whether you can hear anything running inside the cabinet.

It was all done at the same time and its definately humming. The planning app showed the power route and the path has been dug up/filled in following this.

That's impressive for BT. A change in their rollout method?

Nearly all the cabs around here have just been installed and the power went in the day after (even before the fibre was blown through).

Yeah, the two cabinets in the main road that have been fitted (out of 3 PCP's) went in very quickly. Even the really big old style one against a church wall, and the newer tiny one by a pub. The middle PCP still doesn't have a new cab. (mine <sob>).

If I was a betting man, I would guess that there is difficulty getting the main spine in. Are there any other utility works in the area? The councils don't like more than one utility working in the same please and given the dates you mention it could be that there is some upgrade work going on preventing the fibre work.

Openreach look to be doing the fibre tube work today into several of the new Stamford cabs.
