BT cabinet

[link to this post]

Ho folks,

Is there an easy way to find out which of the 3 green cabinets near me is the one I'm connected to? BT can't (or won't) tell me. BT tell me that I can get FTTC but I can't find any upgraded cabinets near me (i.e. air vents and a fan).

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Adam

If you can grab an local engineer working near you he may be able to tell you, but to find out if you can get FTTC (and you can get from anyone, not just BT) pop your number into https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html as that will tell you if you can get it or if you are just getting salesman talk.

You are on cab 36 which has been live since 6th August 2010!

So yes, you can get the FTTC service. The only possible issue is if the cabinet is full up, so there are no spare DSLAM ports at present. What does your number show up in the BT wholesale checker?

BT checker says:

For Telephone Number ********** on Exchange AYLESBURY

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 3Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 2Mbps and 4Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 3.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 2Mbps and 6Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 500Kbps and downstream line speed of 3.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 2Mbps and 6Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 31.9Mbps and upstream line speed of 12.6Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

Thank you for your interest.

Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.
Note: If you already have a Broadband service enabled on this line and you want to switch service providers, you will need to contact both your current provider and your new provider to get your service changed over new and existing service provider to have this service transferred.

BT say I can have FTTC, I just haven't noticed any newer FTTC cabinets near me as they all still look like the old type.

Thanks all for the info, will look again.

They may have installed the smaller 128 capacity cabs in your area which are just a bit "fatter" , not much higher and slighltly narrower than existing copper cabs.

Try looking near this cab: http://g.co/maps/3st38

There will be an FTTC cab closeby.

Perhaps the corner of Southwark & Thrasher, across the roundabout? Unless that's a VM one, I can't see it well enough.
