This isn't in answer to Stuart's query, but it seems that Draytek is using unlicensed software in the firmware of these devices.
An examination of the firmware images for the Vigor 27xx VDSL2 modems reveals GPL-licensed software.
Draytek should play fair and abide by the conditions under which that third party software was released.
On a technical note, the Draytek 27xx devices are powered by an identical Broadcom chipset to the Openreach/Huawei HG612. That chipset is the BCM6368.
Since the 6368 is a highly integrated System-on-Chip, requiring very few external components, the performance of all modems based on the 6368 chipset is likely to be identical.
Those purchasing a Draytek are likely to be disappointed if they are expecting an improved connection.
