BT Broadband with Fibre - speed increased !!

[link to this post]

Tested tonight and it either it is a fluke or the 2Mb cap has been lifted :

http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/results.php?t=13275...

My download has been gradually increasing over the past few weeks and today my download has magically increased to 2763kbps

Happy days smile

My Broadband Speed Test

The Bt Broadband Option 3 with fibre was previously limiting the upload speed to 2Mbps - see other posts in the forum around this subject.

BBMax can give fluke results. If any cap has been removed it will show up in the down/up IP Profiles from the BT speed test. What cap do you mean smile ?

> Download speedachieved during the test was - 16697 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12397-17711 Kbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is -17711 Kbps

This was previously an IP Profile of 2000Kbps
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 2652 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10000 Kbps

Note - I have not asked BT for any changes - this appears to have happened automatically

This was my profile back in August 2011 :

Deliberate, a fluke, or an error ...

Could be either and I'll keep an eye on mine to see if it moves up - currently 2000 profile.

You must be a fair way off from the exchange to only get 2600 though.

Pretty poor speed for Fibre! This speed more suitable for ADSL2+

he is referring to the bt broadband with fibre cap that has a 2mb upload only, due to the fact that his estimated speed will be below 15mb so he cannot have the full fat infinity product, happened to me when they went onto profile 17a, my estimate went from 14.3mb to 22mb which allowed me onto the the infinity product, therefore giving me the upto 10mb dl rahter than 2mb, on another side note i just got another speed boos today, gone from 27mb dl to 37 mb, woo hoo.

That really depends on how much extra distance there was between exchange and cabinet.

VDSL2 is still DSL, and so dependent on length & quality of the copper, but only as far as the cabinet. It ought to always be better than ADSL2+, unless the cabinet is ridiculously close to the exchange.

We don't know how rural the OP is; but if the previous ADSL service was only 512k or 1meg, then 15.9meg would be the same jump as those of us on 15meg get by going to 40.

I have friends in my town who cannot get ADSL at all, (BT engineer tried, no sync due to distance). FTTC boxes have been seen in that neighbourhood for the last year.

OP could live in an area like that, but with no cable - there are lots around the country.

James - be* pro - on THFB - sync about 17.2mbps - BQM
