Re: Fibre Availability Checker

I have two BT lines (next to each other) but your checker gives different results for both of them. The only difference between the two lines is that line 2 (which gives incomplete results) is partial LLU (O2 for internet only).

Line 1
Data found:
Exchange: Wandsworth
Recorded Line Length: 3020m
Estimated Attenuation: 42dB
You are connected to one of the following:
Cabinet 32 which is currently planned to receive FTTC (67% of lines)
Cabinet 36 which is currently planned to receive FTTC (32% of lines)
Our check shows that you cannot currently order FTTC.
Your speed estimate for fibre is:
Downstream: 40Mbps
Upstream: 10Mbps

Line 2
Data found:
Exchange:
Recorded Line Length: m
Estimated Attenuation: 0dB
No fibre services were found for this postcode.

Your speed estimate for fibre is:
Downstream: 40Mbps
Upstream: 10Mbps

Seems to work perfectly for me (incidentally, thank for for allowing postcodes with a space - seems to be beyond the capability of many web sites!)

Data found:

Exchange: Wandsworth

Recorded Line Length: 3157m
Estimated Attenuation: 44dB

You are connected to Cabinet 42 which is currently planned to receive FTTC by 31st March 2012.

You cannot currently order FTTC.

Your speed estimate for fibre is:
Downstream: 40Mbps
Upstream: 10Mbps

Would you mind PM'ing me your postcode as there is clearly something wrong there. It should show your cabinet number after "you are connected" but there's something wrong with the db query :/

As you say, it doesn't seem to work with LLU lines.

Is there anywhere to check those?

The reason why there is no such online checker is because BT will be on your case. I would recommend anticipating that they will be in touch shortly. The data within that "leaked" document is BT copyrighted and they don't like any part of it being published smile

I think its a great idea personally as there is a lack of FTTC availability information available. We have, on many occasions, debated whether we should offer such a tool on our website, but had to take a step back and understand that for some reason BT are so against any of this data being in the public domain, even though we only use it for legitimate availability enquiries to help sign someone up = money to BT

Ah well... good luck!

Recorded Line Length: 1526m
Estimated Attenuation: 21dB

You are connected to Cabinet 8 which is currently live and accepting orders for FTTC

Your speed estimate for fibre is:
Downstream: 40Mbps
Upstream: 10Mbps

As suspected my line goes round in circles before hitting the cab, can walk to my cab which is approx 300-400m?

No, that checker is showing you the line length from the exchange, not the cabinet I believe. So that data is in fact useless for FTTC smile

James is correct, that data is line length from the exchange.
As far as I can tell there is no way to get the line length from the cabinet unless I try and calculate it using the estimated fibre speed.
