Anyone know when MRCOL is getting FTTC?

[link to this post]

Anyone here on the MRCOL exchange and have any idea when it's due for an upgrade? My postcode is M40

I checked the exchanged enabled lists and literally every other exchange in Manchester is being upgraded, apart from this one, which is crazy as this is right slap bang in the middle of Manchester.

Anyone shed any info? My internet is so slow, would like faster internet. I live 3.5 miles from exchange and no cable frown

Actually looking at the 12 exchanges that serve Manchester, Wythenshawe and Collyhurst have no dates set yet but their are another 3 exchanges ahead of you to be enabled, the other 7 have a FTTC service.

Mercury RFS date set : 01/03/2012

Ardwick/ Broughton RFS date set: 2012

Once those 3 exchanges have been enabled for FTTC, you will see dates for you're exchange Collyhurst and Wythenshawe, cities take a while to enable.

Yeah could be, I'm just frustrated. I'm actually looking into a leased line as I'm sick of being stuck in the ice age with my connection

Are you getting the best out of you're line atm?

Be is avalaible on you're exchange, could go for their line bonding product, as for leased lines depends how much you are willing to spend.

Dates for you're exchange may likely appear in the next exchange annoucement from BT, should be this month or pretty soon.

thanks a lot for the info!

With FTTC does it not matter how far I live from the exchange? I'm not far from one of them green bt cabinets, just round the corner

What FTTC does is replace the copper length between the exchange and you're phone cabinet, in short a mini exchange is made next to you're existing cab, leaving only the copper between you're cab and house left if you take a FTTC service- the rest of the route is fibre.

Depending on you're line length from you're cab to home and the quality of copper, a distance of up to about 600 meters, will give 40/10. It then decreases further away, this 600m distance for 40/10 will likely increase once 80/20 comes out of trial.

You should be able to get a far better sync speed.

Can you post the stats from your router and see if someone can recommend anything? Instructions to get stats can be found on Kitz's site, along with a speed calculator that analyzes the readings to estimate the throughput you should get:

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/index.htm

On my 5.5km line running ADSL1 my attenuation is 56dB and I get 2.2Mbps, and that's with a target SNR margin of 12dB (very high but necessary on my line for stability). My ISP runs lines estimated <4Mbps on ADSL1, under another ISP I was on ADSL2+ and got about 1.5Mbps.
