Strange speed issue with BT Infinity

[link to this post]

Had Infinity installed a week ago, and when doing speedtests, I can get upto around 70-75mb down and 15mb up.

However, when I leave the computer alone for a period of hours - either going to bed and testing the next morning, or going to work during the day, and testing when I get back in the evening, when I perform a speedtest again, the download has sunk to 15-25mb, and the upload usually stays at 15mb (ish).

I'm using a Linksys E3000 with the standard Openreach modem.

If, under the status tab on the router, I disconnect the PPPoE, and reconnect, it seems to solve the issue.

Anyone experienced tihs before, or have any idea why it might be happening?

I've just enabled the log on the router, so maybe that might give some clues...

Thanks

Could anybody throw any light on this issue?

Having kept an eye on it, it seems that any peiod of more than a few hours, maybe 4 or 6 hours, and the speed plummets.

Was speedtesting at 75mb this morning at 7AM, but by 1pm, I'm testing at 15-18mb

Have you tried the same test on a different PC/Laptop to rule out an issue with network card on your PC?

Hi,

I have a MacMini running Windows 7 & an iMac on OS X Lion, both connected (wired) thtrough the router, and the seed tests on both machines are always almost exactly the same. Immeadiatly after a router re-boot, or releasing/renewing the internet connection from the Router, the speeds are fine, but then, after a few hours, massive slowdown.

Have you connected either devices directly to the Openreach modem? This will help rule out your router being the issue.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

It appears that Firmware was to blame.

One of the updates has "Fixes WAN speed degredation" listed.

So far, so good, but it seems to have worked smile

In reply to a post by Anonymous:
On modem or router

It would be the router, the modem is just a "black box" (albeit white).

So you updated the Linksys ...

I wonder if there's a similar problem with the HH3 then? Loads of people are seeing exactly the same issue.
