Unlocked Huawei Modem Graphs

[link to this post]

Could anybody explain the difference between 'RS Corrected Errors' & 'RSCORR Corrected Errors' on the graphs that are plotted?

Im almost getting to the bottom of a fault on my line. Noise is present when the RSCORR graph is showing errors, and there is no noise when it is not. The RS graph just shows errors all the time regardless.

Just wondered if anybody could explain the difference between the two?

Thanks

In the RS graph (filled blue triangles) these are not really errors as such, more an indication that Reed Solomon Error Correction has been switched on.

When Interleaving is OFF, this graph is blank.

RSCorr are actually errors corrected via Reed Solomon "stuff".

RSUncorr are errors that could not be corrected, so the data had to be retransmitted.

I have hopefully got the axis naming correct for when I release the updated scripts, that show more data - 25 graphs in all (fairly soon).

Thanks for your reply Bald Eagle.

So if I understand you correctly the fact the my RS graph is constantly maxing out is not a major issue. And the fact that the noise on my line only coincides with the RSCORR graph makes sense also.

My graph is above.

Your RS graph looks just like it should, so it's not an issue at all.

When you say "noise", do you mean audible noise, like a crackly phone line?

Your Interleaving depth of 2250 or so does look rather high, suggesting a generally "noisy" connection anyway.

The large & sudden gap in the RSCorr graph is interesting.
Do you have any suggestions as to what may have caused it?

Yeah it is audible noise, im fairly sure its a bad joint in the road around the corner where the D Side cables were once repaired.

The large gap is where the BT did a remote test on the line yesterday. Once you do something on the line it seems to dry the joint out and improve things for a short while. Even dialing a quiet line test from the phone makes the errors go away for an hour or so.

I recorded the line onto my PC when I did a quiet line test. Will send you a private message where you can both see and hear the noise. (I wont post link here cos it says my phone number).

Noise can only be heard when RSCORR errors are showing.

What happens around 20:00 to 21:00 each evening?
That seems to be when things happen the most.

Don't mean to jump in, think of me as an observer, but ironically my RSCorr graph does a similar behaviour to yours at the moment (with the gap). Will keep an eye on this thread.

Interleaving being switched OFF also causes gaps in some of the graphs, but increases "other" errors at the same time.

When Interleaving is switched back ON again, the gaps disappear & "other" errors decrease again.

It's also worth noting that the scale of the graphs can mask some errors.

e.g. when errors have been in the millions, a few thousand at a time can be "hidden", even though they may still be excessive numbers.

This is my RSCORR over a longer period of a few days. I have BT coming round tomorrow, ive requested they check for a high resistance fault around the corner.
