31-Dec-2012 FTTC RFS date

[link to this post]

How accurate is this likely to be? I've seen a reasonably sudden influx of FTTC boxes popping up all over the place, with one going up near the cab that serves me most recently (still being done, by the looks of it).

Is it really likely to be the case that I can order FTTC on New Years Day?

In reality it most likely to be before then, the Dec 31st is a placeholder date and it seems that your install is well under way.

Check the BT checker every few days, just before you can order the date may move about wildly or just disappear and then it will go live.

Although wild weather or other such factors may hold it back so cross fingers for none of that in your area.

The exchange has an RFS date of 31-Dec-2012.

The Wholesale checker reports the following, and has done for quite a while...

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 80 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps.

The fact that cabinets have been installed does not normlly mean a lot. I would not hold your breath for December. THe greater probability is that it will be pushed back given BT';s current progress. The street cabinets are in any case the simple bit of the install.

For what it's worth, this one hasn't been pushed back at all - it's been 31-Dec-2012 since the RFS date was first set.

Probably because the date was so far out. It is a black art but the majority get pushed back at least once and many several times. It is basically an unknown..

Our cabinet was installed in February, with a date in March, which slipped to June, then September, but it went live around the end of July and I was connected on 20 August.

Other cabinets we're live earlier, whilst others are still not.

Thanks,

I've noticed some people have been emailing questions about cabs to Openreach directly, with fairly consistent success.

Is this the nga.complaints.or.enquiries@openreach.co.uk I've seen mentioned?

I only ask, as the rollout heavily impacts what I do about internet in my new property until FTTC comes.
