FTTC - Pay for FTTP?

[link to this post]

Hi all,

forgive me for a very noob question here

My line currently gives the following on wholesale checker:

WBC FTTC Up to 9.7 Up to 1 -- 31-Mar-13
WBC ADSL 2+ Up to 5 -- 3 to 7.5 Available
WBC ADSL 2+ Annex M Up to 5 Up to 1 3 to 7.5 Available
ADSL Max Up to 3 -- 2 to 4 Available
WBC Fixed Rate 2 -- -- Available
Fixed Rate 2 -- -- Available

Currently on ADSL2 with Xilo and with a bit of SNR tweaking achieved a solid 5.5MB

So, given that the above states I'll only get FTTC (I'm hoping their 9.7 estimate is extremely conservative!) is it actually possible to pay to upgrade the connection to FTTP and what is the likely cost?

Also, who would I contact for information on this? (email address if possible?)

I'm eyes open on this and expect it to cost £K's, but I run a business and may consider it if the price isnt tooooo mad!

Also, if I were to pay for FTTP, could this benefit others in my road?

Cheers

FTTC speed depends on the distance to your local cabinet, so the speeds indicated are probably close if a little conservative.

At the moment, you can't pay for FTTP. However, in the spring a new product will be launched called Fibre on Demand (FoD). Estimates are £1500 install costs if you're 500m from your cab, but actual costs have not been published yet.

There's an article here with information.

Problem is with that estimate, it looks like you're a good distance from the cabinet and thus likely to cost a fair bit more than £1500 frown

You might get lucky, in that the fibre is run from a separate node rather than the cabinet itself, but probably not.
