FTTC attainable

[link to this post]

Hi,

Finally got FTTC installed. Spoke to a really good engineer and I had to pop out, but he said the max attainable was 150meg/40meg on his tester which is the highest he's ever seen. The cabinet is about 50 metres away -- does that seem right to you?

Any news on faster than 80meg fttc products smile?

Yes sounds right.

No sign of Openreach going faster. I think they are hoping to tempt you to Fibre on Demand for faster than 80 Meg

I'll find the actual figures attainable on a Profile 17a

That attainable rate will soon be chopped down by crosstalk, I have seen LOADS of stats with 140mb+ rate only to check a few weeks later and find it's in the high 90's

Isn't there a Profile 30a which could bring higher d/l speeds for those lucky people close to the FTTC box.. I think some trials have been done by BT, but with FTTP on demand on the horizon I question whether BT would rather customers choose this option instead.

Yeah, fair enough. I was the 17th person on the cabinet (must of been a lot of demand - it was only activated about 3 weeks ago and I thought I'd be one of the first!)

Mine has dropped over the last year from 86Mb/s to 72Mb/s. I suppose it might recover as summer comes along.

I think it highly unlikely they will roll out 30a, given that the specification for ISP-supplied modems and modem/routers (soon to be allowed) is for 17a and vectoring capability.

There'd be a lot of smell if they made them redundant in the foreseeable future.
