Time to revisit EO lines in Cornwall?

[link to this post]

There's an old news article relating to EO lines in the North Yorkshire project, dating back to October 2012.

Amongst the comments is this one:
Posted by glaidler 8 months ago
After cheekily applying for a network re-arrangement via openreach as a residential customer rather than an ISP, someone at Openreach responded with the following:

“EO planning is underway and this is very much one of the solutions that will be considered for your area. EO solutions are very new, and we do not yet have any definite timings on when they will be rolled out, but we expect large deployments of EO solutions from Feb 2013 onwards. If you have signed up to receive our email updates (www.superfastcornwall.org) we will inform you as soon as you can place an order.”

Is it time to check in with Superfast Cornwall to see how things are going?

Cornwall are delivering to EO in some areas and that was as of April

Mixture of solutions and mixture of EO (long/short) being solved.

Does that count as "large deployments", or are they still really trialling it?

Having now hit 75% coverage, you'd presume they have to be doing something with scale now.

Here is an update dated 05/06/13 from Superfast Cornwall in response to a query re EO lines on 31/05/13.

The rollout seems to be continuing at quite a pace but still no news on Exchange Only (EO) connections. I know that some work has been done on a new cabinet for Three Waters on the A390. Some time ago, the concept of new cabinets for EO customers was put forward; is this the case for Three Waters?

Superfast Cornwall
Fibre for exchange-only lines has started to be rolled out in some areas. As it's an entirely new solution, with some teething issues to be expected, these early enablements are being monitored before any widespread actvity occurs. Will keep you posted on these areas (and Three Waters) as we're able to announce them.

Eeek - with things about "entirely new solution" and "teething troubles", that was the kind of answer being given *last* summer.

Hi - that was my post back in Oct 2012.

Update here is that they are in the process of performing EO rollout in my home town, with a (slightly slipping) schedule of between now and the end of the year (originally July to Sept).

Looks like this is primarily taking place via new cabinets to provide FTTC, and judging by the number of OpenReach vans, this is scalable rather than a pilot.

I am hoping that FTTP on demand will be available by the time the new cabinet is enabled.

That's good news for some people around here!

Are those new cabinets dotted around town, or just outside the telephone exchange? If they are remote from the exchange, what kind of distances are they?

You might not know yet, but as the project advances, please come back and let us know!
