Svlan Upgrades

[link to this post]

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone on here has had experience with an SVLAN being upgraded at the local exchange ? If so how long did this task take to complete?

Thanks,

It's a configuration change, it won't take long.

EDIT: SVLAN 'upgrade'? Que?

EDIT2: Never mind, I see some people aren't in one. This is something that will not improve your service but is useful to operators in segmenting traffic, especially if they plan on delivering a voice or TV service over your fibre service.

Operators can do it themselves via their software interfaces to Openreach, and downtime should be extremely minimal.

Hi,
Thanks for the response,

BT have advised me that my exchange requires additional capacity is this likely to take longer than an upgrade of the SVLAN?

Thanks for your help.

In BT speak they are probably referring to the same thing.

Ok, they have said that it will take weeks rather than days to complete this task. Does this sound normal?

Yep, sounds perfectly normal. If it were a really quick task it would've been done already before it became an 'issue'.

Hi,
Thanks for confirming that. Am I correct in assuming that if I were to switch to another ISP that my line would still be routed through the same SVLAN that it is now?

Thanks,

Unless you're switching from A N Other ISP to Sky or TalkTalk it's not going to resolve any capacity issues.

The issue isn't with an SVLAN that's just a numerical ID.

Hi,

Thanks for confirming that,

Am I correct in assuming that if I were to move from BT to Sky then my line would remain on the same Line Card that it is now? Or is it likely to be moved to a new card?

Thanks,
