Digital Region network to close

[link to this post]

Just seen the following at the DRL website announced today......

http://www.digitalregion.co.uk/closure-of-digital-re...

Cant say I am surprised !!! What a waste of money. Would have been much better for all of South Yorkshire if BT had won it years ago IMHO...........

They brought it to my street where we already had virginmedia 50 Mbps available.
I would go as far as saying 80% of people had virgin already and were happy.

Madness mate

A lot of the areas they picked put them in direct competition with either Virgin straight away or BT FTTC very quickly.

The very exchanges that would have benefit most ( i.e outlying exchanges ) were all the ones chopped out of the 54 initial ( down to the 34 actually done ).

I am unfortunately on one of these and I would guess that as South Yorkshire was attracting no BDUK funding due to Digital region, whether now there is a chance it might do if this network is getting closed down.

Fingers crossed !!

Oh, and I worked on it for 2 years and am glad I got out last year when I did !!

BT cancelled their roll out plans in my old house due to this.

They have come back only last month though.

This was kept very quiet wasn't it?
shareholders had embarked on a re-procurement exercise in March 2012 to facilitate the commercial transfer of the network to another provider.

Not really.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5432-digital-regi... is just one of half a dozen in the last year, and the procurement is in the list, with a French firm the last likely choice.

Yorkshire Post has been all over the story for ages too.
