Hi, I have had infinity 2 for about 3 months now. I am pleased with it and I seem to get a full speed connection. here some details from the hh5.
6. Data rate: 20000 / 79995
7. Maximum data rate: 36001 / 101149
my question is could BT offer me a 100mbit down and 36up, if so why don't bt or any other isp offer connections based on your max data rate.

Not on FTTC, that's capped to 80/20

If they removed the cap, then maybe 5% might go beyond the 80 Mbps point, but it with pressure for honest speeds, capping at a speed the absolute maximum makes for an easier life
Plus max rates may come down as take-up increases in an area.

its just that I moved from VM 120/12 service. I think a lot of users would like the option to have the max speed. I understand it would change with more users on the cab.
It is unlikey BT will ever do FTTP even though my exchange says it has it.
and options like line bonding get to expensive.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on the differences between VM 120/12 and a BT 79/19. Friends who recently moved from VM 60/3 to Sky FTTC 30/10 report that the sky line feels faster in browsing all the time, just notice downloads are a bit slower. (They couldn't get cable in new place).

Be happy with what you have got, some people got a lot less and got no choice in the matter.
that is the problem with people they just want faster and faster.

Very true. I was very lucky in my area. Good speed from ADSL then ADSL2+ and now FTTC. Also used to be with Virgin Media too 120/12.

BT did ADSL Max, and that worked out ok, this was before people had any experience at all of anything but fixed speed services.
VDSL Max would be nice...
