Zen fibre worth it?

[link to this post]

Hows the speeds, pings and overall quality of the service rate for people on this ISP? Any ping graphs, trace routes, speed tests etc would be appreciated.

Cheers

The trouble is that the biggest factor to affect your speeds is your line quality and distance from the cab, which is different for everyone.

Do you know what your estimated speeds are?

Then the limiting factor is almost certainly your line length, I doubt you'll see much difference speed wise between providers. As Hoolay88 is finding, trying to find the ISP with the quickest trace route and ping is almost impossible, just too many variables.

I would not touch PlusNet, but then I am one of the original 'bad boys'.

And I wouldn't pay the Zen price as it is OTT. The same as you don't smile.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I would if they were the only ISP not FUPing or throttling their customers. I only mentioned them as they are part of that ever shrinking group. Oh, and UK support is a must.

Likely to be interleaved (error correction, increasing latency, possibly higher than ADSL2+), speeds would be a bit faster on Sky than on Zen & Plusnet. Location also affects ping, if you're close to London then you'll get lower latency on Sky and Plusnet (not sure about Zen's network), compared to up north.

Funny, I've been with Zen and Plusnet for broadband and the only noticeable difference is in my bank balance. The reality is broadband doesn't vary hugely among decent companies and that includes Plusnet. tongue
