Re: HG612 Stats how do they look..

[re: MrPete] [link to this post]

You'll be quite safe to swap the modems around, just some things to bare in mind.

Power off the modem first.
Some recommend leaving it off for about half hour, personally I've never worried about this.
Don't continuously power down modems in quick succession.
Don't do it after dark as there tends to be more interference, lowering your sync.

Apart from the above general advice as your current attainable is lower than your sync your speeds will almost certainly be a bit lower, but of course the ECI might well negotiate a different speed to the Huawei anyway.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll leave it a few days as it seems to be working fine now.
From a speedtest point of view the connection is faster with Plusnet but only by a small amount.. not anything you'd notice in the real world.

Hmm.. had a couple of funny moments where I had no internet.

My PC which is connected directly to my router got upset, so I'm not sure it was a line issue or not.

But these are the latest stats from my HG612 any thing wrong or happened today ? thanks laugh

Agreed.

There look to be only another couple of hundred errors in the last 2 days, so it isn't that either.

Thanks for taking a look.

Looks like it might have been an issue with one of PlusNets gateway's.
A couple of other users have posted about it on there forum.

Are there any docs or online guides to help understand the xdslcmd output ?
Thanks again.

If there are, they will stem from what RONSKI, WWWombat and Bald_Eagle1 have worked out tongue.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Re: HG612 Stats how do they look..

[re: MrPete] [link to this post]

Any *easy* docs or guides?

What I've worked out for the output of xdslcmd as it relates to VDSL2 has come from a combination of reading the VDSL2 spec, and previously a variety of ADSL guides.

I found, in the past, there were some reasonably readable guides to ADSL on the net, but nothing for VDSL2. In the end, I resorted to the raw specs on the ITU website. Eventually, I got it - at least as much as a plain software engineer (who isn't a digital signal engineer) can manage.

The ability to understand (a portion of) those specs comes from a working life of reading & understanding telecomms specs, which dates back to being taught X.25 at Uni in the eighties.

I don't have a handle on all of the output, so there are probably a whole host of nuances that are just going over the top of my head.

It would be a good start to have a web page where you can paste the output and get an automated analysis, like we used to have with BE -
http://be.nfshost.com/
It's also an opportunity to aggregate some stats.

It wouldn't be a bad idea.

But would there be enough data to make for meaningful comparisons? The fact the modems are locked down means that only a few samples, from those willing to unlock, are really available.
