IPV6 VS IPV4 Speed test

[link to this post]

Hi

I recently changed to Plusnet and got a nice clean 72M down and 18M up connection, happy with that.Later I got a fixed Ip address again no issues and a fast set up.

But of course I kept checking the speed and noticed something. First I was occasionally given an IPV6 address for up to a week at a time, well OK I thought they need to test this and my system should cope.

But I noticed that before these IPV6 addresses started my speed was this. After the fixed IPV4 it was this. And when I had a IPV6 address it was this.

I have quite a few results like this but there aren't really enough results to prove a correlation. However it looks to me as if when I have IPV6 working then the speed is slower.

Do you think this is a function of the type of connection or the test itself or something else entirely?

Any ideas?

Test and server are the same for ipv4 and ipv6

What firewall are you running for the ipv6 this may have an impact

Hi

I am using a Fritz!box 7390 as router, not set up as VDSL but using ethernet output from a HG612. Fritz has a built in firewall which is enabled and the PC is running Windows 2008 R2 with its firewall enabled.

I haven't changed any settings on either and V6 address propagate throughout my home network, when they exist.

You are given an IPv6 address if you connect to a bng gateway.
