It doesn't really mean much unless the HG612 and 8800NL are running on identical lines at the same time because the error rate isn't constant from day to day. On my line over the last 7 days my 24 hour ES rate has varied from 179 up to a maximum of 908.

Your best bet to get a more valid comparison will be to average the error rates over at least two months.

alot can change in a 2 month period, generally I think swapping between the 2 every day or so is reasonable. On my line error rate differences can be seen after just 1 day.

But of course max's line has error rates near 0 so the difference from say 5 crc a day to 10 is pretty much 0.

Those results are shocking! You should complain to the CEO right away! (Have you changed your lights yet, or switched them off?)

Even if you get FTTH you can get areas due to cable movement and bad splices, so am sure even if given FTTH there will be room for error checking

Agreed.

You're only ever going to get indicative results with this type of testing as you can't ever perform a 'fair' test.
My own opinion is that if the Billion performs better (higher sync and/ or throughput) and is more/ as stable in use, how many errors it records in operation compared to the HG612 is irrelevant.
