Are there any new FTTC modems or modem/routers coming out?

[link to this post]

One thing I've noticed about FTTC is the lack of choice when it comes to FTTC modems, particularly with BT Infinity. Apart from using the old Openreach modems, are there any alternatives to that modem yet?

Surely it wouldnt take a company much technology to mimic the openreach modem?

Demon => Freeserve => Pipex => Be => Sky => BT Infinity 2

Price ends up being pretty close to the cost of combined VDSL2 modem/routers and as separate Openreach modem and Ethernet router are rarely provided now the market is small.

Does it match the specification in the body and appendices of SIN 498?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 57.1/14.8Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

So what? Openreach have quite specific requirements for connection to their network, which will of course comply with EU regs but are likely to be more restrictive.

SIN 498. see Sections 2.4, 3 and Annex A.

I'm guessing you didn't get the humour in my post! smile

I have one, and it works. If it stops working as a VDSL modem, I'll but the OR brick in and use the FritzBox as a router, until AVM provide an update for it to work.

They're good boxes, although mine just rebooted itself for no reason (for the first time ever)!

No joke for the Germans; they have previous for Quantitative Easing! After Versailles, they tried diluting their war debt by printing lots more money. But through the law of unintended consequences, they got Mr Hitler in their chump change! So maybe, as they say: "Gebranntes Kind scheut das Feuer!"
