Telneting and locked modems.

[link to this post]

I bought an unlocked huawei openreach modem the other day from a well known auction site and I intend to add it in to my current setup.

From what I've been told it as been unlocked and so I can see the stats, I presume from the web interface(?).

Also I've heard a lot of people say about telneting in to the modem, but the 'how to' guides seem to be hard to find. Anyone got a good guide on that?

If the modem becomes 'locked' I am assuming it means that you're locked out of seeing the stats? That the modem will still work? Also I've heard that I could see access the stats via telnet even if the modem was locked? Is that true?

You need to use the second LAN port to access the stats.

Once into the modem you can redefine te IP address to one you want, then connect LAN2 into your network switch and access it via that route.

connect a second cat5e cable to lan 2 and try going to 192.168.1.1 if the unlocked firmware has been uploaded to the modem then you should see a login box.
