Does DLM use Modem stats, My total time still shows old CRCs

[link to this post]

Hi,
My line sync won't improve. No CRC's for 7 days.

Does DLM use Modem stats, My total time still shows old CRCs,

I am assuming NOT but wondered why my line is so slow to speed up and noticed the total time of 1 days 19 hours (which is wrong) but this was from 8 days ago and shows the CRC's back then.

last 6 months fine, I thought G.INP messed with sync speed as old hg635 on old firmware & wonld not update so now using a HG612 hacked to for dlslstats.
Speed dropped 20mb 12 days ago, I though due G.INP incompatible with modem,
3 days later went up 10mb, 2-3 days after up another 10mb back to full speed

7 days ago I had bad errors for an hour, following morning back down 20mb. Not a single CRC since but will not go back up.

I know 10 days is meant to be the advised time but most seem to be faster than that.

It is crazy that 1 hours of bad line and drops 30% but takes many days to go back up.

I don't think line fault, just something that must cause massive interferance once every few weeks. Does not disconnect.

[re: bignose2] [link to this post]

You are aware that even if DLM is not the problem, ALL xDSL modems will drop to a lower sync to handle error bursts, but DO NOT automatically go back up to a faster speed until you manually restart the router.

Thus your lower sync compared to the max combined with the spare downstream noise margin suggests a restart of the modem may give you back the speed now.

Thanks for that info,
I never knew that, although I nearly always do a power cycle anyway but this time I had not for a while trying to prevent the DLM making it worse with too many resets.
However It still did not help, same stats.

I guess I will have to wait but just don't understand why sometimes it takes longer than others to recover. Last time it crept back up every few days by itself.
Does not appear to have had a single CRC or other significant error in last 7 days.

FEC's generally steady'ish 300 per minute, sometimes up to 1000 p/m.

Frustrating delivered speed with these stats (although at 750m from cabinet I know I am very lucky) Gradual decline from even better that this before with some cross talk.

That looks as if your line has been capped at 54Mbps by the DLM, probably due to earlier considerable instability. I'm not sure if that goes away automatically these days or still needs an engineer-requested reset.

(Incidentally, if you use xdslcmd info --show instead of stats you get the same output as far as the "Bitswap: 640/640 5/5". It's very rare that we need the error breakdown below that and it's a lot of scrolling smile).

Thanks for reply & sorry posted too much info. I thought most of the relevant stuff was at the top.

From what I understand & read from forums is DLM will recover without a reset as it did before but much quicker than now.
Been 8 days, SNR is nice and steady between 11.8 & 12.2, max speed at 67-72mb so dissapointed to be 53,999 sync.

Also the drop I assume was caused by 8000 crc errors over the space of about 6 hours but there were no crc's before that and none the 12 hours after but speed was dropped at 4am, I guess when BT DLM adjusts. been zero crc's for 8+ days now.

Is frustrating that a single, brief'ish, albeit considerable, event causes a 15mb drop but takes 10 days to recover.

I have not had such a problem but it would be very annoying if there was something JUST once every few weeks that a neighbour or business did to cause massive REIN on line to drop the seeped but take 10 days to to recover just in time for another line disturbance. I thought that was what G.INP was for & mine is enabled now but not helped me.

Will continue to wait, trouble is service providers are not interested if you are within spec even if the day before you were 15-20mb faster, so never get a BT manual reset and it is not a fault as 99.99% of time perfect line stats.

I don't know what to advise really. It's a mess and annoying, and as you say - getting a helpful reaction from Openreach and BT Wholesale in such circumstances is very difficult. I think the ISPs actually suffer more from it than we do, as they have to bear the brunt of our complaints.

It was noticeable that as Openreach became more "It works so stop moaning" the ISPs were forced to adopt the same strategy to a considerable degree. They are between the rock and hard place. Not that some of them couldn't try harder. Many could.

Re the length of the stats, you've nothing to apologise about. I used "stats" for years, although I saw many others using "show". I was worried if I might omit something useful if I did, although I couldn't see the difference.

In the end I asked. It's one of those things that are so obvious once you know.
