Stats review would be much appriciated

I finally have my modem unlocked thanks to help on this website smile

Was wondering if somebody could have a look at my stats below and provide comment. My line is only about 250 metres so they speeds seem very slow compared to others...

A property a few doors down can get the full 80 meg...

also my BQM seems fairly stable, just a red glitch where I swapped over the modem after work

Reasonable downloads might go a bit faster on up to 76 product but only around 5-7 Meg. Upstream probably stay same

Speeds seem fine for attenuation

As said, the speed is about right for the attenuation. However, the attenuation does not match your claimed line length and is more indicative of a line around 600 to 650m long.

Are you sure of the routing taken? Remember it is from your house to the original PCP plus the PCP to DSLAM distance (even if it is doubling back). You mention your neighbours on a "full 80" - same cabinet? and how does the (guessed) routing compare? Your drop wire from te pole could be in totally the opposite direction to the cabinet for example which could mean an extra 80metres.

Hi MHC,

Im 100% confident on cable routes and the cabinet used by my neighbour. My neighbour gets full whack 78meg in the real world and I can barely scrap 50meg attainable.

The only difference is im fed from an underground cable and the neighbour is from a overhead pole. I seem to be losing a lot though....

Neighbours line:
Telephone Number 01773742*** on Exchange RIPLEY is served by Cabinet 23
FTTC Range A (Clean) 80 66.9 20 20 -- Available

My line:
Telephone Number 01773741*** on Exchange RIPLEY is served by Cabinet 23
FTTC Range A (Clean) 68.6 50.3 20 14.1

I'm not saying there is not a fault although it is unlikely.

As your cable goes underground immediately you cannot always be sure of exactly which way it runs. For example yours may still go 50m in the wrong direction to an underground joint.

You error stats are low suggesting a decent quality of line, you have not mentioned any audio issues, No excess SFR, and attenuatio is about right for speedy. Unless you can get an OR Technician on-site and the line length measured electronically, ther is little you can do.

If you neighbours willing, can you get an identical set of stats from that line to compare?

I concur.

One old line we used had an attenuation of 16.8dB, and was 350-400m long. Getting 80/20 speeds was borderline once crosstalk took away all the spare attainable. The figures for D1, D2 and D3 (visible with the "--pbParams" option) were 12dB, 29dB and 44dB.

A different old line was 650m long, and got attainable speeds of 60/16. It was on an older version of software where the attenuation wasn't visible as a composite figure. However, the figures for D1, D2 and D3 were 14dB, 34dB and 53dB.

It looks like the line isn't as short as the OP believed.
