Gained 6Mbps in speed after power cut!!

[link to this post]

We turned the power off for 30mins during some renovations at the house today. To my amazement, when I decided to do a spedtest several hours after turning back on, I'd gained around 6Mbps in speed! It seems that G.inp has kicked in. Not sure why as I only turned the power off once and there had been no problems with the connection up until this. My stats are now:

Probably. Did you have interleaving on before?

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

No I didn't. I definitely would have noticed as I check my stats several times a day! Is there any disadvantage to it being on permanently?

Not that we are aware of. It's there to correct errors without having to interleave. It nicks 0.2Mbps sync I think, but if you've gained 6Mbps ....

Sounds like your connection came up first after the power cut and synced higher as the other sources of interference were removed.

It's definitely strange - we did remove some old electrical wire out of the attic - hence the power being turned off just incase they were still live wink

BUT the attenuation hasn't changed which I would have thought would have dropped if any of these cables were causing interference.

One thing I did notice when I popped out after turning on power and before the speedtest is that an Openreach Engineer was working down a hole a few doors down (with a big reel of thick cable by his side) and then later on he was working at the cab about 130m from my house. Maybe he did something that caused my speed increase and also for G.inp to be turned on?

Edit: As I've been typing this, my attainable has increased to 69998Kbps!!

Looking good for you then smile

I wish Openjoke would look at the cables around here, Im certain they are the root of some of the issues surrounding my line....

Any ISP that thinks that selling my click traffic is acceptable is MisinPHORMed
VIVACITI 80/20 FTTC
SWPM PCP29 - Still suffering Random drops and intermittent high error counts

BQM - too red too often.

hahaha yep - fingers crossed smile I should get a lot faster as my house is only 130m-ish from the cab but attenutaion too high for some reason.

What sync speed did you get in the end wit fibre? I haven't heard from you since you said you were ordering fibre.

It doesn't sound like a "power cut". I think the OP cut the power in the house.

Curiously I had the same a couple of months ago. There was a local power cut and when it came back my FTTC connection was at 74Mb/s instead of 67Mb/s. After two days it dropped back down even though it didn't resync. Most odd.

Friday: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...
Saturday: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...

Friday TBBQM: Power cut is at 111am, the other two are me rebooting just the router to try and fix a problem with my email server: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share-thumb/ac1c6...
Saturday: Nothing: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share-thumb/c64d6...
Sunday: Nothing: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share-thumb/d50ad...

But the next test I ran (Wednesday) was back to 67Mb/s and it's been that way ever since. Weird.
