FTTC speed halved in the last week...

[link to this post]

Well after signing up for BT's highest speed option for FTTC here, I was getting reasonable results until this week:

Date Down TBB Down HTTPx6 Upstream IP Address ISP
Mon 03/08/15 14:32 22.88 Mbps 22.95 Mbps 7.60 Mbps deleted BT
Mon 03/08/15 14:26 22.88 Mbps 22.90 Mbps 7.62 Mbps deleted BT
Tue 28/07/15 14:18 52.77 Mbps 51.45 Mbps 8.14 Mbps deleted BT
Sun 26/07/15 12:58 52.64 Mbps 37.56 Mbps 8.27 Mbps deleted BT
Sat 25/07/15 10:24 52.69 Mbps 38.02 Mbps 8.21 Mbps deleted BT
Tue 21/07/15 13:38 54.42 Mbps 39.88 Mbps 8.29 Mbps deleted BT
Mon 20/07/15 15:14 54.05 Mbps 54.47 Mbps 8.29 Mbps deleted BT
Mon 20/07/15 11:18 54.43 Mbps 36.78 Mbps 8.29 Mbps deleted BT

The download speed has halved and is almost the same as I used to get with ADSL... whereas the upload speed has declined just a bit.

Has anyone else seen this?

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/7083-windows-10-a... may have had some effect, was the result a wobbly line rather than a nice flat one?

Removed your public IP address before someone makes you lose even more speed due to traffic pointing at you

Thanks. That was a bit silly of me...

I rebooted the HH5 and the speed has considerably increased (and the IP changed), although still not quite the same as before.

Nope, pretty flat. I guess that could be making a difference, also I noticed an OpenReach guy working on the cab that serves me last week. Will more FTTC users slow down the line noticeably?

Sounds like you got a low sync speed from a burst of noise and the usual restart resolves it.

Modems do not reconnect automatically when things improve, as this would mean broadband would be on/off an awful lot more.

Am still getting speeds about 10% lower on both upload and download since signing up with BT Infinity 2.

Mon 20/07/15 15:14 54.05 Mbps 54.47 Mbps 8.29 Mbps

Wed 19/08/15 12:55 49.03 Mbps 49.08 Mbps 7.32 Mbps

The degradation happened about a week after the initial install, and has remained pretty constant since. Rebooting the HH5 has little or no effect.
