HH5 keeps rebooting

[link to this post]

My HH5 which came with FTTC a few months ago seems to be regularly rebooting itself. For example today I see:

Connection time: 0 days, 04:55:41
Data Transmitted/Received: 2.1 GB / 5.7 GB

It usually seems to reboot in the night, it has done so 3-4 times in the last week.

The other surprising thing is the data transmitted/received. I can't quite figure out why it's so large, I have only viewed a few web pages this morning and read some mail.

Is it a type A or type B? It says on a label on the bottom.

The large data numbers indicate you may have some malware affecting you.

Its a type A. I do have antivirus on the PC, and that has been in sleep mode until 8:30. Also I have a Macbook pro running Skype, wonder if that could be to do with it?

When you say regularly, how often is that? The HH5 has a reputation for instability and even the best ones reboot every 14 days.

I think Skype could easily send and receive large amounts of data.

It's rebooted 3 times inthe last week. Always at night.

Yes I think it might be Skype, looking at network activity on the Mac its showing a constant stream of data being sent/received even though I'm not using it. I'll have to put it to sleep at night wink

I suggest you try a factory reset of the HH5 although note this will wipe out any settings you made, there is an option to backup the settings first http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11386...

If that doesn't fix it, the hub may be getting too hot due to it's positioning so move it to increase the ventilation.

It may be faulty, so you can ask BT for a replacement.

They are set to automatically reboot every 14 days as they are buggy.

Back in the day users would keep them on for months on end & without a reboot the homehub would lock up itself, requiring switching on and off at the outlet.

If it's rebooting more than once every 14 days (as yours is) it's probably faulty, get a replacement from BT.

Don't forget that batch of HomeHubs a while back (about a year ago) that got too hot and melted the case LOL.

It was obviously covered up to make that happen.

Warning - do not cover up your Homehub, the ventilation slots are there for a reason.

Mine's next to a window - north facing - in a cool spot. I am trying splitting the SSID's to see if that helps.
