Fibre speed estimate has gone of a cliff

[link to this post]

A few weeks ago
FTTC Range A (clean) Downstream 68.6 to 50.3 Upstream 20 to 14.1

Now
FTTC Range A (clean) Downstream 41.4 to 31.7 Upstream 8.2 to 5.7

Actual
47.723 9.462

How can Openreach justify such a massive change
Guess what will happen if I report a sped fault

Distance to cab is about 800 metres

If 800 metres then would have said it was optimistic before and now is possibly slightly pessimistic, but given the pressure to not over estimate speeds, estimating slightly under is more honest in many peoples view.

They made it much more pessimistic a short while back. Now I get speeds in the 'clean' range, before I was getting nowhere near that.

With the speed you are getting, it does not seem bad - I'm more like 500m from the cab and get similar results.

Not if you want to order 80/20 from Plusnet crazy

I'm 600m from cab and get 45/15. So, slightly better upstream than you but worse downstream.

Why would you want to order an 80/20 service when your line is only capable of realistically supporting a 40/10?

Even with 47 down there is still the potential for further noise from cross talk which could pull it down further.

Why, you would never get that speeds on your current line, I would go with the 40/10 and if you get little noise you know it "should" be still around the 40Mbps mark.

Because Plusnet don't do 40/10 only 40/2

Well I think that 2Mbps upstream is stupid, you "could" in some cases saturate your upstream resulting in slower downstream.

Does the 80Mbps downstream option give you 10 or 20Mbps upstream?

TBH, I would choose a different provider that can provide a better upstream speed for the 40Mbps package, but that's just me.
