Speed & issues

[link to this post]

About a year ago an all in one cabinet was installed roughly 750M from our house - previously we were on an EO line at a distance of around 3KM from the exchange. Prior to install we got around a 4.5Mb speed.

Anyway decided to go to for plusnet and originally synced at around 35Mb with an actual speed of around 32Mb. Over the last 12 months this has gradually reduced to a 27Mb sync but the actual speed we get is around 20Mb. Current stats below.

1. Product name: Plusnet Hub
2. Serial number:
3. Firmware version: Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.226 Last updated 15/09/16
4. Board version: Plusnet Hub One
5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 02:18:15
6. Data rate: 2001 / 19973
7. Maximum data rate: 6486 / 27529
8. Noise margin: 16.7 / 12.0
9. Line attenuation: 32.3 / 27.3
10. Signal attenuation: 31.9 / 23.4
11. Data sent/received: 1.8 GB / 5.9 GB
12. Broadband username:
13. 2.4 GHz Wireless network/SSID: PLUSNET-SR3X
14. 2.4 GHz Wireless connections: Enabled (802.11 b/g/n (up to 144 Mb/s))
15. 2.4 GHz Wireless security: WPA2
16. 2.4 GHz Wireless channel: Automatic (Smart Wireless)
17. 5 GHz Wireless network/SSID: PLUSNET-SR3X
18. 5 GHz Wireless connections: Enabled (802.11 a/n/ac (up to 1300 Mb/s))
19. 5 GHz Wireless security: WPA2
20. 5 GHz Wireless channel: Automatic (Smart Wireless)
21. Firewall: Default
22. MAC Address: 8c:10:d4:10:2d:2e
23. Modulation: G.993.2 Annex B
24. Software variant: AA
25. Boot loader: 1.0.0

Recently the broadband has been going down a lot as well - the other day every 10-15 minutes through out the evening (error stats below from the modem). The modem is connected direct to the socket.

21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.610000) PPPoE is up - Down Rate=19973Kbps, Up Rate=2001Kbps; SNR Margin Down=11.9dB, Up=16.3dB
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.600000) CHAP authentication successful
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.490000) CHAP Receive Challenge
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.490000) Starting CHAP authentication with peer
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.490000) PPP LCP Receive Configuration ACK
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.480000) PPP LCP Send Configuration Request
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.480000) PPP LCP Receive Configuration Reject
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.480000) PPP LCP Send Configuration ACK
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.480000) PPP LCP Receive Configuration Request
21:08:23, 14 Nov. ( 1736.470000) PPP LCP Send Configuration Request
21:07:49, 14 Nov. ( 1702.350000) PPPoE is down after 26 minutes uptime [Disconnected]
21:07:47, 14 Nov. ( 1700.150000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [PPPoE PADT received]

So my questions are - do you think the speeds looks low or if any of the stats look odd? I thought our line was good as we got a high speed on ADSL for the distance, so surprised we have a lowish speed - I haven't been too fussed until now as is still a good improvement over what we had. Modem is direct to socket so no extension wiring.

Thanks for helping.

The 12db and on the downstream is why your original speed has dropped -

but you have to ask, why ?

Any noise apparent on the line ? Have you asked Plusnet to test your line and FTTC for you ?
