FTTP Rollout

[link to this post]

My contract for FTTC is up for renewal and I'm looking for more speed, and apparently my exchange (Crowborough) does have an FTTP option as well, but not my cabinet / address.

If there a roll-out plan for FTTP in the same way as there was for FTTC?

Thanks.

If you have FTTC you'll not see FTTP for a long, long time.

Oh okay, I thought that if FTTC is there then running the last part for FTTP is technically not that complicated so it would be offered.

You are thinking of the product Fibre on Demand, which is expensive and not widely available due to the fact that workforce is somewhat busy with contracts that have big political consequences.

FTTP has never been technically difficult to deliver, just time consuming which means expensive given the cost of labour in the UK.

I believe Max is referring to this news item though I can't see anywhere in that article where it states the gov't have announced FTTP for all by 2025....

That would be because they have not any actual plans and the investment fund does not guarantee anything, i.e. reliant on firms deciding to access it
