Huawei 288 -> 384 extension - G.fast involvement?

[link to this post]

So, can you guys think of any reason, other than a shortage of ports, why a Huawei would have the 384 port extension done?

The cabinet in question is my own node, one of the 2 Huawei 288s has been extended.

It was mentioned to me that it may be due to G.fast being deployed, however that is I believe slaved from the first Huawei cabinet not the second and I'm not sure I see a possible connection.

Virgin Media have moved into the area and it seems strange that 576 ports of VDSL aren't enough, but if that's how it is that's how it is.

Pretty funny remembering the year it took to convince Openreach to enable the cabinet at all. Now at 2 x Huawei 288 + 96 port extension shell on the VDSL side, fed by a PCP with stand-off shell for additional blocks and a G.fast pod attached.

Got my answers. Nothing to do with G.fast, it was just a shortage of capacity triggering the upgrade to HD cards on the second Huawei.

This is what happens to all unviable cabinets I guess smile

Seen a fair few upgraded to 384 around here, mine included.

Very healthy FTTC uptake around here mind.

Yeah a few of those. This guy is slightly rarer as the 384 is alongside a full 288 so pretty good uptake.
