FTTP live! Speedtest help! 330/50

[link to this post]

Hi all,

Finally we have FTTP live! What a journey.

Ipv6 speed is this:
My Broadband Speed Test

Ipv4 speed is this:
My Broadband Speed Test
My Broadband Speed Test

I do see we could 'burst' into 300+, but doesn't maintain it, is that norma!? p.s. I am NOT directly on the router (1 switch away with an SFP connection)

So plug directly into to the router, with nothing else connected first of all, and then try with a couple of different devices ....

What Internet Security system(s) are you running?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 76102/14089Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

?? We have an Unifi system with an USG on it, why?

p.s. I am still undecided whether to swap that for a Peplink Balance One Core (we have that here as well, redundant because we used to have 4 ADSL lines, which is replaced by one FTTP.)

Internet Security System - Combined (or separate with each from a different company) Antivirus and Firewall systems.

They have been known in the past to mess up speed tests. Those problems seem to have been largely (not necessarily completely) sorted out at ADSLx and FTTC speeds, but I'm wondering if yours may not be brilliant at full speed FTTP 300Mbps downloads.

Also, if you are speed testing at this level through that wireless system any results are suspect. Particularly if anything else is running on the system or any computers/phones/tablets.

Grats on your FTTP install, I love your upload speeds smile

I just did a few tests just now and I got the following:

[IPv4]
My Broadband Speed Test My Broadband Speed Test

[IPv6]
My Broadband Speed Test

Normally the speed starts to drop at about 3:30pm and between 5pm to 1am the speed drops to about 200Mbits in the worst cases that is, I have had days when it only drops to about 270Mbits.

Hey,

Anyone can explain why speedtest.net can give 'much' higher speeds than the thinkbroadband one?

I have run 'multiple' with the 'sort of' same result:

322/51

MTU 1492
My Broadband Speed Test

MTU 1500

Yes

The speedtest one uses LOTs of threads so can reach a high speed showing what is possible to achieve over your connection.

The TB one has two tests single and 6 threads to give a real experience ( single thread) and a potential ( 6 threads)

The difference between the two TB ones indicates the level of congestion across the network to the servers.

@PaulKirby

looking at your ipv6 vs ipv4 they are pretty close. Is that a Zen thing you think?
