As I am on a long line am I best opting out of the upgrade or let it happen and see if my line degrades?

Hi Adam,
I think PN/maaf will leave you on ADSL1 (21CN) if their ADSL2+ speed estimate doesn't show an increase for your line but with your line's attenuation they might switch you on to ADSL2+ to see if it gives you a stable connection with a faster sync rate.

You best stay on ADSL Max unless you need the faster upload speeds of ADSL2+, but your line should be over 1 Meg faster even now,

My target snr is 9 hence the loss of speed.

Long line and lots of overhead cable.

This is an old thread of mine that shows how bad my line used to be http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/freenetname/f/37873... untill i was moved to a new cable route

G.DMT2 = ADSL2 (not +)

As you have a long line, unless you can get the noise margin down a bit you've probably got all you can get. All the stuff I've read claims that 2+ is less-good on long lines. Filtered faceplate? Voyager 2500v lets you manually force the noise margin and line mode using DMT.

Coincidentally, my exchange was also done this week and they've left me on ADSL1. OK with that though, I'm getting a 2Mb profile on a 9km line, without tweaking the noise margin away from 6dB.

I might have a play to see what happens if I force the router to ADSL2 and drop the noise margin.

Apparantly I should enter a new 10 day training period sometime before midinght tonight.

But looks like the 88.1% rate has kicked in as download rate matches the 88.1% so gained almost 500 against what my adslmax profile was allowing

Hi all,

Just so you know if anyone does change from ADSL to ADSL2 and doesn't see an improvement, with the exception of their being a fault that can be resolved we can reverse the transfer back to ADSL1.

I hope things continue to go well with your line Adam

Just as an update things have settled down now and after replacing my old 2wire 2700hg (complete failure) with a netgear dgnd3300v2 the line is stable on adls2+

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5163 kbps 881 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 25.5 db
Noise Margin 2.8 db 5.9 db

Target of 3db

Get speedtests around 4.25 down .77 up

A big improvement on my non wbc days

It is a very long line but I live in somerset and they have our village down on the bduk project as a high speed village and a survey has been done on the pcp points that connect the village from wwstal lets hope we get it in the near future.
